Our Mission

The mission of the Bursa Journalists’ Association (“Bursa Gazeteciler Cemiyeti”) is as follows:

01. Fully guaranteeing the provision of freedom of thought, communication and press in Turkey, within the frame of the understanding of a national, democratic, secular and social constitutional state where human rights are protected, and where the rules of a liberal and pluralist democracy are applied.

02. Preparing the way for using the right to collect and disperse information to the public opinion without any pressure or restrictions.

03. Protecting and developing of any and all rights and interests of those persons being working in all kind of print media and in broadcasting, in the visual, audio and electronic publishing business, as well as of those institutions to which these persons are bound. Contributing to the increasing of both the cultural development and the socio-economic welfare level of those persons who are working in all kind of print media and in broadcasting, as well as in the visual, audio and electronic publishing business.

04. Preventing any and all kind of publications which would violate people’s honour and/or self-respect or which would lead to misinterpretation of reality about the person concerned, and ensuring the public’s respect of the right of reply and correction.

05. Preventing the profession of journalism from being misused for private aims and interests of any kind, to watch for the compliance with the principles of the profession of journalism, and protecting the professional ethics of journalism.

06. Gathering those persons who are working in all kind of print media and in broadcasting, as well as in the visual, audio and electronic publishing business, providing both material and moral solidarity and mutual help among them, representing the profession, and working for and taking measures in order to raise the professional ethics of journalism within society.

07. Contributing to the education of successful children of the association’s members and journalists with inadequate financial means, granting scholarships, and finding resources for this purpose.

08. Providing moral and financial support to those members and media employees and - in case of death - to their dependents having no financial means, and establishing new foundations and associations for such purpose, participating in other organizations, and supporting these.

09. Participating in any kind of social, cultural and/or sports activities, e.g. conferences, panels, seminars, concerts, representations, exhibitions, etc. relating to science, cultural events, art and sports; arranging balls, diners and trips in Turkey and abroad in order to provide synergy between the association’s members.

10. Performing of any kind of research for both the profession’s and the country’s development, and having such researches made; generating projects, issuing reports and having reports issued, publishing these as books, publishing of any kind of printed matters, e.g. newspapers, periodicals/magazines, brochures and albums, and assisting to the publication of any intellectual property and/or translated products which will be of profit for the country.

11. Opening of schools and libraries, building of study rooms and laboratories, giving support to educational institutions, associations and civil society organizations, building dormitories, residences and nursing homes as well as holiday resorts, and founding beneficiary associations. Giving support and making donations to museums, libraries and other cultural and art organizations.

12. Helping our country to develop, organizing of any kind of activities and initiatives necessary to increase the educational level in the country and supporting other organizations founded for such purpose, and creating public opinion on both national and international issues.

13. Providing relations with other associations and institutions both in Turkey and abroad, performing mutual cooperation and help with them, and making endeavours and participating in the gathering of such associations and institutions to become an umbrella association.

14. Founding of both amateur and professional sports clubs, providing support to already built ones, helping them to improve, participating in the raising of successful sportsmen, training them and getting involved in the training of sportsmen.

15. Taking steps by performing any kind of economical and trade activities, founding of companies, and participating in such.

16. Benefiting from those rights which are granted to those associations built for public interest, by means of various laws, regulations, circulars, etc.

17. Raising and claiming the unitary integrity of both nation and state, and preserving the public’s right of being informed about all facts, by means of Constitution’s power, in order to reach the entirety of these aims.
